The player controls Ashely Riot, who infiltrates the City of the Dead alone, in third person perspective. The plot is fantastic, sincerely one of the best ever presented in interactive form. Riot finds himself battling not only the cultists and the insidious monsters they raise within Leá Monde, but also the Blades and Guildenstern. The Blades are led by Romeo Guildenstern, a vicious crusader with pretensions of piety and faith whose aggressive pursuit of Sydney seems to have a hidden agenda. The main complication is interference by the Crimson Blades, an elite unit of Cardinal Batistum’s Knights of the Cross, dedicated to suppressing cults and exterminating heretics. He must then pursue the cultists into the fabled Leá Monde and rescue the boy. Riot fails to stop Sydney from attacking the manor of the Duke Bardorba and kidnapping the Duke’s son, Joshua. He is assigned to capture cult leader Sydney Losstarot, head of the Müllenkamp order, which operates out of the ruins of the city of Leá Monde, the City of the Dead - a legendary place of magic that was destroyed by a mysterious earthquake 25 years ago. Protagonist Ashley Riot is a “Riskbreaker,” an elite agent of the Valendia Knights of the Peace (VKP). Like Matsuno’s other Final Fantasy games, the story takes place in the fantasy world of Ivalice, kingdom of Valendia. It was created by Yasumi Matsuno, designer of other notable games such as Ogre Battle, its sequel Tactics Ogre, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Final Fantasy XII. This game remains my favorite action RPG, with only Castlevania: Symphony of the Night coming a close second. So we will most likely see Vagrant Story on PSN tomorrow for either $5.99 or $9.99 (most likely the latter). Game details are gathered from Press Releases from their individual publishers and/or ESRB rating descriptions. The following dates are subject to change. Let’s hope he’s right.Īstute readers also need to take into account the editor’s note at the bottom: However, in the post’s comments PlayStation Senior Social Media Specialist Rey Guiterrez repeatedly insists that the title is only $5.99, equivalent to its prices on the European and Japanese PSN stores. Given the history of Square’s republications on the network, one would expect to pay $9.99 for it. According to a post today on the PlayStation Blog, Square-Enix’s 2000 action RPG Vagrant Story will be available on the PlayStation Network tomorrow, March 1st, for $5.99.
